Trip Reports

Bolivian Climber 28 July - 18 August 2000

Written by Leader John Eames, December 2000

Our first trip to Bolivia this summer was led by John Eames and experienced mixed weather, but team members managed to summit on all four of the main climbing objectives. On rising at 2 a.m. to make an attempt on Illimani (6,462m), fog cleared to reveal a cloud sea below with patches of high cloud as well. The conditions held together for 6 members to make the summit, just as the weather closed in and a rapid descent was made through deepening snow. A terrific storm followed that night with 5 to 6 inches of snow falling at base camp, the local guides commenting that it was the heaviest that they had seen in 8 years! Overall, a successful trip, with the team it seems having luck on their side in terms of the weather! « Previous report | »
