BMG as a trainee candidate. The Guides' training scheme meets the standards
laid down by the European Guides Commission (EGC) and is ratified by The
International Federation of Mountain Guiding Associations (IFMGA), formerly
referred to as the Union Internationale des Associations de Guides de
Montagne (UIAGM). It takes a minimum of three years to attain full
membership of the BMG/IFMGA. This covers UK summer and winter mountaineering
and Alpine guiding and skiing. Only IFMGA guides or BMG aspirant members
under the supervision of an IFMGA guide, are permitted to operate in the

An IFMGA Guide from Slovenia, Tomaz started climbing at age 15. Since then he has climbed over 900 alpine routes, with many world-class first ascents in the Greater Ranges. His CV reads like a dream list, and includes ascents in the Himalayas of the NE Ridge of Dhaulagiri (8,167m), alpine-style new routes on Gyachung Kang (7,952 m) and Siguang Ri (7,308m) and the first alpine style ascent of 'Eternal Flame' on the Trango Tower in the Karakoram. In the Alps, Tomaz has climbed many of the modern hard classics, including the Croz Spur on the Grandes Jorasses, Divine Providence - reckoned to be the hardest route to the summit of Mont Blanc and the tenuous ice climb, Beyond Good and Evil on the Pelerins. He also leads expeditions for Jagged Globe and was a leader on our 2008 Manaslu expedition and in 2009 summited Mt Everest as a leader on the Jagged Globe expedition.

Clive Hebblethwaite
WMCI
Experience
Clive has been guiding on Jagged Globe’s winter mountain courses pretty much every year since 1998 and keeps coming back! He’s climbed many of the Scottish classics such as Ben Nevis’s Point Five and the Skye’s Cuillin Winter Traverse, as well as major lines from around the world, such as the Granite of Yosemite’s El Capitan and the Alpine faces of Piz Badile and Grand Capucin. Clive’s no stranger to the snowy peaks of the Greater Ranges either, with ascents of Huascaran, Alpamayo, Elbrus and Island Peak. In fact he’s climbed extensively on remote peaks all around the world, as well as exploring many of its wilder deep canyons in a white water kayak. Professionally Clive started life as a Primary School Teacher after completing degrees in Geology and Biology. He went on to manage an adventure and environmental residential centre, but has now migrated into industrial Health and Safety for Wind Turbines and Oil energy sectors, as well as continuing instructing and guiding. He can often be found exploring the lesser-known crags and rivers around his Lake District home, but has always felt that there’s something unique about winter climbing in Scotland that’s hard to find elsewhere. A good day here is as rewarding as anywhere in the world. The best winter routes are of course a combination of fickle nuances of finding the best mountain conditions and then matching a suitable challenge to the companions on the day. Colin Kirkus knew all this long ago on a trip to Skye... "Going to the right place at the right time, with the right people, is all that really matters. What one does is purely incidental."

Mark Hendry
(Mark Andrew Hendry)
WMCI
Experience
Mark has over 25 years' experience as an instructor, combining work as a Seismic Mountaineer and Technical Advisor with instruction and guiding. He regularly works on Jagged Globe Scottish Winter Courses. Mark has also led expeditions to South America, North and East Africa, Nepal, Tibet and Norway. He has climbed extensively in the Middle East and felt nervous and fallen off in over 40 countries.

Experience
Jamie has contributed to Jagged Globe's Alpine Courses for many years, combining this with work in Outdoor Education at Ogwen Cottage, North Wales. Max Hunter
(Max John Hunter)
WMCI
Experience
I started life as a secondary school teacher, and late in this career I discovered the Outdoor Industry as a second career. I became a skier, caver, paddler, biker, climber and mountaineer. I eventually chose to leave much of this behind in favour of working as a Mountain Instructor. I've since worked in Argentina, Peru, Greenland and the Alps, and had fun in many other places, but now I'm proud to call the Highlands home.

Tim Neill
IFMGA British Mountain Guide / WMCI
Experience
Tim has been climbing and mountaineering since the late 1980s. After immersion in a climbing lifestyle at university in North Wales, he made it his home and it continues to be a base to this day. After a long career at the National Mountaineering Centre in North Wales, Tim is now a freelance British Mountain Guide. For a number of years he has been involved in training and examining for the British Mountain Guides (BMG) in all the climbing and mountaineering elements of the BMG scheme. Tim says "This is a very privileged position in which to constantly see fresh ideas from trainees and observe and learn from my colleagues who I work alongside". Personal climbing highlights include leads of Welsh classics like Lord of the Flies, Midsummer Night?s Dream, The Cad and Free Stone Henge. In winter Tim has put up many first ascents and repeated mega classics, favourites being The Godfather, Shield Direct and a winter traverse of the Cuillin Ridge on Skye. He has soloed many classic Ben Nevis Vs in good conditions. "In the Alps I'm close to the UIAA 4000m list and have climbed the classic Six North Faces as well as many other famous Grand Courses. Personal highlights have been the Colton McIntyre (Jorasses) and Lesueur (Drus) in the Mt Blanc range. Alpine climbing worldwide has taken me to Alaska, Greenland, Peru and Argentine Patagonia. In between storms there I?ve summited 8 times including the perfect Fitzroy. Having said all that I enjoy a good coffee or beer depending on the which end of the day..."
