Greenland Ski Expedition

Introduction

This is an exploratory adventure ski touring trip to Eastern Greenland potentially involving dog sleds, boats, snowmobiles and most importantly skins. The aim is to visit virgin territory which will of course mean that summits we climb and lines we ski will not have been done before.

The trip starts with us witnessing Greenlandic daily life at close hand in the isolated coastal community of Kulusuk. The plan there is to load up two specially designed open boats then head some forty kilometres north. There we will set up our base camps on the ground (rather than snow as shown in the photo above which was taken on Brabant Island, Antarctica) close to fresh water and to the seashore. From these base camps we will skin and ski using the boats to access objectives further afield and offshore.

We will have maximum flexibility to make the very most of our time in Greenland. You will need the usual kit for ski mountaineering on glaciated terrain. Though we should not need to use them, we will take pulks. We will then have the possibility of heading inland for a few days should we chose to.
