Climb Cotopaxi - January 2025
Written by Leader James Rowland Holding (Jamie), March 2025
"With Nick (a brilliant effort) and Chiqui on the summit at 7am. Volcan Cotopaxi quiet for the time being. Pepe, Nuria and Iain had topped out earlier, with Romel, Hannah and Jane just ahead of us. Nuria, Iain and Pepe, led to the summit, where feathers of rime point towards the prevailing wind. Cotopaxi is unique, our schedule had ensured we were ready, the weather and conditions were favourable, guiding principles to climb by, buoyed by the supportive team spirit we generated. The descent, gravity assisted, took care of itself, down the snow trail, crampons still biting as the morning began to warm up. The midnight start meant we were safely off the glacier and lower snow slopes before any melting began, returning to the hut by 10am."
